Understanding Lash Curl Types: C, CC, D, L, M Explained

Posted by Jade Penson on

In order to create the right kind of look and be able to enhance your client's natural features to get the results they are after, you need to be able to select the right curl for every eye shape and lash type. The curl that you choose should be based on their eye shape, and can be used to enhance or correct the natural contour of their eye. Different curls will interact with different eye shapes, by opening, lifting or elongating the eye, so it is important to be aware of the eye shape you are dealing with before you select the type of lash curl. Finding the perfect curl for your client can be the difference between good lash extensions and exceptional ones!

C Curl - this natural-looking curl is suitable for most eye shapes, often described as a medium curl, adding lift to the client's lashes and giving the appearance of more open eyes. It is a popular choice and suitable for most lash styles, and is usually available in most eyelash extension ranges.

CC Curl - for those who prefer a little more lift but still want their extensions to remain subtle, this curl is the next step up from C. It is slightly more dramatic than its sister curl, and can be used to lift down-turned eyes or create a slightly more doll-like effect.

D Curl - D is for drama, and for those clients who want a dramatic and noticeably lifting curl with a wide-eyed effect. The D curl offers a more glamorous look than the more subtle Cs, and while they are suitable for most clients, they are particularly useful for those individuals who have downward-angled or straight natural lashes, as they significantly lift and open the eye appearance.

L Curl - this curl extension has a flat base that connects to the natural lash, followed by a sharp, angled bend that resembles the letter "L". This type of curl is great for straight lashes or hooded eyelids as it is designed to lift and open the eyes, making the eyes appear wider and more awake, and can create either a natural or more dramatic look depending on the client's preference.

M Curl - another ideal option for those wanting a dramatic upward curl and an eye-opening effect. It is similar to the L curl but with a more dramatic upward bend, and because of its straight base, it creates great definition and an eyeliner, or cat-eye effect. It is a particularly suitable choice for hooded eyelids, deep-set eyes and straight or downward-pointing lashes, and helps create a fiercely bold lash set.

Know Your Lash Curls!

Understanding the intricacies of different eye shapes, a client's natural lashes, and their desired outcome is what makes a good lash technician great. But don't forget that the quality of the lashes you work with depends on your supplier, so if the lashes irritate or the adhesive doesn't hold, no matter how good a job you do, your client won't be happy. Always buy a wide and varied choice of lash extensions to suit every client’s needs, and always buy from a reputable wholesale supplier like Lavilash to ensure that the products are of top quality and give longer-lasting results.

Know your lash curls and become skilled at applying them, as this is vital for achieving a consistent curl across all the lashes, without any wrongly placed extensions that annoyingly interfere with the client's eyelid or other lashes. Having the skill to pick the right lash for each client is what will make you, as a lash artist, stand out from all the rest with LaviLash!
