What are the Different Types of Eyelashes?

Posted by Jade Penson on

Eyelash extensions offer your clients salon-fresh lashes for weeks with minimal upkeep, so their popularity is no surprise. Whether you’re already a seasoned artist or enthusiast or you’re looking to add another treatment to your beauty salon, it’s important to know all the options that clients could ask for.

The right lash extensions for your client will depend on their desired outcomes. For example, classic lashes are a popular choice when they want a subtle eyelash upgrade. This style of lash involves attaching single extensions to each natural lash. This technique provides improved curl and length but doesn’t add a lot of thickness. If your client is getting their lashes done for the first time and they’re nervous about the weight of extensions, or they have naturally thick lashes and want to look like they’ve already applied mascara when they get up, classic lashes are a great option. Classic lash extensions involve applying one extension to each natural lash. This technique adds curl and length without creating additional volume, making it ideal for clients who want a soft, mascara-like finish. It’s a popular choice for first time lash clients, those with naturally thick lashes, or anyone wanting a subtle, everyday enhancement without the weight of fuller sets. Classic lashes offer a polished, low maintenance look that still feels refined and professional.

If your client is looking for a dramatic increase in thickness, that’s where volume lash extensions come in. Volume lashes are available in ‘D’ classifications. This refers to how many individual extensions go on each natural lash. They’re typically available from 2D, so your client can expect a doubling of their natural lash thickness, all the way up to 16D, which are often referred to as ‘mega volume’, and the result is bold, dramatic lashes.

For clients who are looking to work their way up to volume lashes, you could offer hybrid extensions. This refers to a set combining classic and volume lashes. You’ll attach 2D or 3D lash extensions on certain lashes, providing the length and curl of classic extensions with extra thickness. This is a great way to offer volume to clients who prefer a subtle lash look.

Different Lash Curls

Once you’ve decided between classic and volume, it’s time to consider your curl options. Lashes are given letters to indicate the level of curl and fall into two groups, relaxed and tight. The right choice for each client will depend on their desired outcomes, eye and face shape, and their natural lashes. Relaxed curls include J, B, and C. These provide a more subtle lift and curl and work best for those with oval face shapes and close-set eyes. If your clients’ natural lashes tilt down or straight ahead, these relaxed curl lashes won’t give a great result.

Tight curl lashes cover the letters CC, D, L, L+, U, and M. These are great when your client wants a more noticeable curl, and tight curls complement wide-set eyes and round faces well. If you have clients with hooded eyes, L & L+ curls fan out from under the hood so your client’s eyes will look more open and wider.

Generally, C from relaxed & D from tight are popular all-rounders. Classic and volume lashes are usually available in at least C & D options, so you’ll have the right extensions to customise and create the best lash looks for your customers.

All the Lengths Available

The final part of your lash extensions supplies is having length options. Typically, extensions are available in the 8mm-15mm range, with some brands offering 5mm for a very subtle look. This length range allows you to accommodate clients who want subtle classic lashes all the way up to mega volume lashes that beg to be stared at. Many lash extension companies offer trays that combine different lengths within them. This means you can complete various lash effects from one tray and even use varied lengths within one appointment for tapered volume.

At Lavilash, we offer a wide range of extension options to suit your Australian clinic and its wide client base. We also sell ground-breaking anime lashes for a bold, exaggerated lash creation. Browse those here.
